Cultivating detachment and non-attachment is an ongoing process, and it’s important to regularly assess our progress in order to stay on track. We can do this by reflecting on our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and asking ourselves questions like “Am I becoming less attached to external outcomes?” or “Am I able to let go of negative emotions more easily?” We can also pay attention to any challenges or obstacles that arise in our practice, and use them as opportunities for growth and learning.

Detachment refers to the ability to let go of our attachment to external outcomes, such as wealth, fame, or status. It involves recognizing that these external factors are impermanent and that our true happiness and well-being come from within. Detachment does not mean that we should avoid or reject external experiences, but rather that we should approach them with a sense of equanimity and non-attachment.

Non-attachment, on the other hand, refers to the ability to let go of our attachment to our own thoughts, feelings, and sense of self. It involves recognizing that our thoughts and emotions are impermanent and that our sense of self is ultimately illusory. Non-attachment does not mean that we should suppress or deny our thoughts and feelings, but rather that we should approach them with a sense of mindfulness and detachment.

Both detachment and non-attachment can help us overcome our attachment to external outcomes and to our own thoughts and emotions. By cultivating detachment and non-attachment, we can move towards a deeper sense of inner peace, wisdom, and freedom from suffering.
